¿Me puede dar otra toalla?
When to use
Use this at the front desk or with housekeeping when you need an extra towel for your room. The same pattern works with other items the hotel can bring or hand you.
How it works
The request literally asks, "Can you give me another towel?" Spanish uses the polite service pattern "¿Me puede dar + item?" rather than translating English "Can I have...?" word for word.
- Me: to me
- puede: can you (formal usted form)
- dar: to give
- otra: another (feminine singular)
- toalla: towel
Grammar
The adjective "otra" (another) must agree in gender and number with the feminine singular noun "toalla". A common mistake for English speakers is adding "una" before "otra" to mimic "an-other", but Spanish uses "otro" or "otra" entirely on its own.
Register
The subject "usted" is understood from "puede", so it is normally omitted. This formal form is appropriate with hotel staff; "¿Me puedes dar...?" is the informal tú version.
Notes
A natural, polite request to hotel staff for an additional towel.
